Our Story

Jay met Kat the old fashion way... at a bar in the Mission: Double Dutch. After some dancing, Jay wrote his number on a napkin, folded it up and gave it to Kat. Kat thought he had given her a piece of paper to throw away but she decided to keep it anyway. A few weeks later, they had their first date at Cha Cha Cha in the Mission and the rest, as they say (as cheesy as it sounds), is history.

Together, they share the same value in putting family first, a love for visiting Hawaii and Disneyland, a dedication to early morning routines, a commitment to at-home workouts (Body Beast, INSANITY, P90X, you name it!), an admiration for movies, and a respect for organic-living as well as wearing socks at all times! They have almost 10 years of memories - experiencing joy, fun and resilience.

Last Christmas Eve, during sunrise at Half Moon Bay Beach, Jay proposed and Kat excitedly accepted. Thereafter, staying to true form, they went for a run along the shore!

They are both very grateful to celebrate their wedding surrounded by their loved ones this coming fall!

BEACHES

Ka'anapali Beach

A mile-long, spectacularly perfect beach that is home to seven resorts, high-end shopping, various restaurants and activities.

*TIP: There are designated public beach access parking spaces at: Marriot’s Maui Ocean Club (10), Ka’anapali Beach Hotel (10), Westin Maui Resort & Spa (28), Ka’anapali Ali’i Resort (11), Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa (20), Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa (74) and Whaler’s Village (21).

Black Rock Beach (at Ka'anapali Beach)

On the north end of Ka’anapali Beach, and is a great place to cliff-jump into the ocean, and snorkel.

*TIP: There are designated public beach access parking spaces at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa (20), which is located at the north end of Ka'anapali Parkway and is the closest to Black Rock.

Makena Beach

A beautiful, long, wide, undeveloped sandy beach with huge views and a large shore-break.

*TIP: In the afternoon, when the surf is up, a strong shore-break exists and can be dangerous for the inexperienced swimmers.

Malu'aka Beach

Malu'aka, also known as “Turtle Town” is south of Wailea and at the end of Makena Road - the entrance is off the main street so make sure not to drive past it! A long and wide beach with beautiful white sand and is gorgeous thanks to the abundant coral reef growing off shore. Sea turtles also frequent the beach - a huge draw for snorkelers and kayakers who hope to catch a glimpse of the beloved Hawaiian honu.

*TIP: In the morning, when conditions are calm, the visibility often provides excellent snorkeling. When it is windy in the afternoon, visibility drops dramatically and you might want to look elsewhere for better conditions.

Wailea Beach

Wailea Beach is wide, the sand perfect, and the ocean inviting (if you don’t mind a resort vibe and a crowd to go with it). When the ocean is calm, snorkeling is very good around the rocky outcroppings that define both ends of the beach. Boogie boarding and body surfing are also fun in the typically regularly formed, small waves and gentle slope.

*TIP: In the afternoon, when the surf is up, a strong shore-break exists and can be dangerous for the inexperienced swimmers. After you are finished with Wailea Beach, we recommend eating at Monkeypod Kitchen - so make sure to book your reservation in advance!

Q&A

For all our loved ones who have lots of questions, please review our Q&A first! THANK YOU!

*RSVP QUESTIONS*

Q. When is the RSVP deadline?

We are requesting RSVPs as soon as possible - we have only invited family and close friends. So, if you know that you are able to come, please let us know by mailing in your RSVP card. This is a destination wedding and it assists us greatly with the planning process to know our headcount ASAP. Should we not receive your RSVP by FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2019, we will assume you will not be attending (our feelings will not be hurt, we promise!).

Q. May I bring more people than the number of seats stated in my invitation?

Although we would love to celebrate with everyone, we unfortunately have limited seating in the venue and can only accommodate the NAMES AND NUMBER OF SEATS reserved for each invitation. We thank you all for your understanding.

Q. Are kids welcome?

We love babies and all of your kids! However, due to space constraints at the venue, our Ceremony/Reception will be ADULTS ONLY.

Q: We need a sitter, do you have any recommendations?

Our wedding coordinator and room reservations agent recommends The Nanny Connection.

Q: Why don't I get a food option for dinner?

We will provide a buffet with MANY food options!

Q: I have dietary restrictions; may I make a special request?

Please indicate your dietary restrictions on your RSVP card immediately and we will do our best to accommodate! So, if you know that you are able to come, it is important to let us know by mailing in your RSVP card ASAP.

Q: Where can I view your registry?

Our greatest gift is your presence on our wedding day so we do not have a registry established. At the same time, if you desire to give nonetheless, a monetary gift is preferred.

*TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATIONS QUESTIONS*

When is the best time to book my trip?

Please book your travel and accommodations after the holiday season and at least 6 months in advance (by April 2019).

Q. What should I pack?

It's warm in Hawaii, so pack your summer attire. You may want to bring a jacket or sweater for the evenings. Bring warmer clothes if you plan on visiting higher elevations like Haleakalā National Park.

For the Ceremony/Reception, please wear Beach Formal attire. Gentlemen, feel free to wear your finest linen shirts with a good clean pair of pants (no shorts please)! Ladies, cocktail and maxi dresses will be the perfect choice. Sugar Beach Events is an ocean front venue so you’ll need to mind the elements: sun, sand, water and wind. For additional tips, please review: A Guide to Beach Wedding Attire for Guests.

Q: I have never been to Maui, what are your recommendations for things to do on this island?

To help you navigate Maui, please check out our Google Map! If you are using a smartphone and/or a tablet, to view the full list, click on "KAT AND JAY'S WEDDING" at the bottom of the map.

Q. What is the recommended airport I should fly into?

We recommend flying into Kahului Airport (OGG) by the latest, Wednesday, October 16. It is only 20 minutes away from Kihei, which is where our wedding will take place.

More information on how to travel to Maui (including airline discount codes and instructions) can be found in our Travel and Accommodations section.

Q: Where should I stay?

We have two lodging recommendations listed in our Travel and Accommodations section in which guests may reserve rooms at discounted rates. You are also welcome to research other options through Airbnb and VRBO.
